Scotland Hiking | Trekking the West Highland Way
Hill Walking through the Highlands • May 14 – 28, 2010
Trip Difficulty and Training: Level II – III (Get information about Levels.)
There are many great walks in the world but few can match the variety of scenery and affability of the people than Scotland’s West Highland Way. Considered to be Britain’s finest long distance hike, the Way takes you from the lowlands and Scottish countryside, thru lush forests along Loch Lomond, the vast openness of Rannoch Moor, and finally, the rugged and stunning mountains of the Highlands.
Every step you take is a walk through time, in an ancient land and its people dating back centuries, and a culture uniquely Scottish. Although 95 miles in length the hiking is moderate and relatively easy when compared to mountain treks. However this is Scotland, and the weather can be a bliss or a bane, making the trek across the moors and highlands a challenging experience. Each night will find us lodging in quaint B & B’s or guesthouses, where the warmth of an open hearth, a hearty meal and pint, and the fellowship and camaraderie of our local guests and fellow hikers brings a satisfying close to the day’s journey.
We end the adventure with time in Glasgow and a full day in Edinburgh, the “Athens of the north.” With its medieval Old Town and Castle, you’ll be awed by beauty and history of this ancient capital.
