Greenland Discovery | Trekking in Greenland

Greenland: Discovery Adventure
Explore Beautiful Greenland  •  July 20 – 24, 2010

Trip Difficulty and Training: Level I – II (Get information about Levels.)

This is Greenland, the world’s largest island and climate change flashpoint. Ilulissat is one of the most spectacular destinations on earth and makes everything else pale in comparison. The star attraction is the Ilulissat Kagerlau, or Jakobshavn Icefjord, the largest glacier outside of Antarctica and the fastest moving glacier on earth.

During the summer this massive sheet of ice moves an astonishing 130 feet per day and producing 20 million tons of ice each day. The size of the ice will leave you speechless, and the sound of the calving icebergs a constant reminder of the forces which shaped much of our planet. The ice you’ll see and touch is over 10,000 years old and the lakes and rivers are the purest in the world. We’ll board a small fishing boat and tour amongst the gigantic icebergs as the midnight sun casts it’s golden glow on the ice. We’ll visit with a local Greenlander and learn about their culture and the single most important ally to their existence, the sledge dogs.
